~ MESSAGE FROM GR CHAIR/LIAISON:
Here is some GOOD NEWS...... I've been heavily engaged with one of our major initiatives...Slots for the Western Shore Lodges. I'm happy to announce that we will soon have more details on the SB/HB which will be introduced and cross filed by Senator Ron Young of Frederick, MD at the 2018 Legislative Session in Annapolis.
The final draft is being composed and as soon as I receive a copy it will be made available to all of you. The Senator's office and I have been in constant contact and I assure you that the discussions held with the major committees, including the Veterans Caucus and State Lottery Commission have all been favorable.
As soon as the bill is dropped, we will have a Bill Number and a hearing is tentatively scheduled in late January.
******** IMPORTANT INFO: **********
We now have some diligent work to do to ensure passage of this BILL. It is as follows:
Thank you all for your support and patience as I work this important issue with the Senator's Office, our supporting Lobbyist and Diamond Game, the Lottery Commission, etc.

~ 2017 INFORMATION ~
~ LAST YEAR EFFORTS BELOW ~
DATED: APRIL 3, 2017
~ I have received official word that our House Bill 1230 will not move forward at this time. We missed the final cutoff date of March 31st for any further submissions that could move on to the Senate for a hearing.
~ This is very unfortunate and is just another example of politics at work in Annapolis. As we all knew at the outset Senator Thomas "Mike" Miller and House Delegate Busch really did not want this bill to move forward, some of this is due to the Governor's Budget which both parties (Democrats and Republicans) are still debating on. Ironically, our Bill would "add addittional revenue....not spend it", what did either of these politicians think?
~ A last minute attempt by our Lobbyist Hannah Garagiola with Miller did not change his position. Her words to us are not to give up and start now in laying the groundwork for next year.
~ I have a meeting with another Lobbyist Pat Gray from Montgomery County on Thursday morning. He is very interested in assisting us going forward and will outline the course of action required.
Pat is very politically wired to both Miller and Busch as the Gray family were business owners in Calvert County.
~ Yes, we all are disappointed, however the challenge remains, “WE CAN NOT GIVE UP”. Our presence and voice are still on the walls and minds of those who were present at our meeting with the Ways and Means Committee on February 24th. It took the Service Organizations seven years to get Slots on the Western Shore and I’m determined to get them for the ELKS.
